Aims

The SFCP is a registered educational charity whose trust deed dates back to 1940 and was set up to develop:

Scholarship

Scholarship means promoting and extending practical ethics and the Critical Philosophy through research of all kinds but in particular through theoretical and empirical investigation of everyday practice and activity.

The metaphysics of everyday life

The ethical underpinning of everyday practice is a main concern of the Society, given the value placed on applied ethics in the tradition of the Critical Philosophy.

This includes research into the Neo-Socratic Method in order to test the effectiveness with which the above educational purposes are served by its practice.

The society has two honorary fellows who has made significant contributions to the scholarship activity of the society: Professor Fernando Leal and Dr Pat Shipley.

Publications are an important way of communicating the Society's aims. The Society has now published two volumes of its own Occasional Working Papers and regularly contributes articles to other linked journals.
